The golf swing can be very difficult to master, and in reality no one ever gets it completely figured out. However, in this article I am going to share with you 3 tips that will improve your iron play, and help you stick your irons close to the pin time after time!
1. Correct ball position. One of the most important factors in solid iron play is correct ball position. Most golfers play the ball either too far back in their stance, or too far up. This causes inconsistent iron shots. To play a standard 9 iron shot, the ball should be in the middle of your stance. For each club, you want to move the ball up approximately 1/2 of an inch. For instance, your driver would be played off of your front toe.
2. Get behind the ball. If you want to improve your ball striking, then you need to make sure that you transfer your weight "behind the ball" at the top of your backswing. This means that all of your weight is loaded on your back side, and is ready to be transferred forward in order to exert the maximum amount of force onto the golf ball.
3. Angle of attack. Often times golfers attack the ball from a very steep angle with iron shots, which often leads to hitting the ball fat, or topping the ball. If you want to hit the ball solid each and every time, try to come into the ball on a more shallow angle of attack. By doing this, you will eliminate many of your inconsistent shots.
