Proper Golf Swing Technique

Interested in the correct golf swing sequence! Carry out following golf swing drill ...

Many beginners are interested in the proper technique. In the first step, you should position yourself in line with the flag. After taking position, while approaching your ball you should watch out for a small stone or a fallen leaf in a direct line between your ball and the flag you are aiming for. Just draw an imaginary line between these two points in your mind, put your club face square to it, and stand parallel to this imaginary line. You are ready to begin the perfect golf swing.

The second step is to grip your left hand properly. Place the club in the left hand in a way so that the shaft lies across the top of the forefinger. It should fit under the thicker part of the palm so that the club remains stable. You should not provide any room for the club to move therefore make sure that the little finger is around the grip and the thumb is straight on top of the shaft with a natural grip.

In the third step, grip your right hand correctly. Fold your right hand just over the left thumb. The thumb of the right hand should point to the right shoulder.

In step four I suggest three golf swing grips which help you to grip the back of the golf club correctly. The most common method used in golf is the Vardon or Overlapping Grip. In this method you have to place the little finger of the right hand between the index finger and middle finger of the left hand. The Interlocking Grip is easier for those with small hands. In this method the right little finger and the left index finger are locked together. This is the second most common method to grip. Finally comes, the Baseball Grip which is popular among people and children with very small hands as they can wrap their fingers around the club.

The fifth step points towards adoption of correct stance. The proper posture will allow perfect balance and poise throughout the swing. For a mid iron shot, the feet should be apart at the same width of the shoulders. The feet, the shoulders, the hips and the knees should be parallel to the target. The right foot should be placed straight at a right angle to the line of flight of the ball. This will allow your weight to come on the inside of the foot and result in an easier follow through. Place your left foot a bit to the side to make it easier for the body to follow through the swing.The upper torso should lean forward slightly from the waist, while the knees slightly bent to allow flexibility.

Maintain a distance of about a hand between your body and the club. Your posture should keep the weight of the body on the balls of the feet and not on the heels. As you approach the ball, keep your arms straight but relaxed, and the left shoulder higher than the right. Next dip your right shoulder a bit so that the club touches the inside of your left leg.

Step Six: In this final step you finally perform the swing. Some people find it very useful to perform the waggle at this point as it ensures that the body weight is evenly distributed on the feet. But remember your upper body and shoulder should not move during the waggle. Waggle helps to relax your body. The action of the arms starts with the rotation of the body, by maintaining the same grip pressure of the hands throughout.

Remember your body should be relaxed for a perfect golf swing. The hips should lead the shoulders all the way through until the swing ends. Practice the swing sequence a couple of times. Soon you will have a better golf swing.

Achieving a powerful golf swing is easy when you know what generates the power in your golf swing. Do you think it's just a matter of swing harder? I'll bet you've tried that one. How did it come out? Your golf swing needs a sequence of motion using your hips.

Here's a little golf tip for more power in your swing.

When you start your downswing you rotate your hips aggressively. The only thing you need to remember is that the faster your hips rotate, the faster your arms need to go to stay in sequence. But...if you are not physically strong enough and flexible enough to achieve this very demanding sequence of motion in your golf swing, you can try as much as you want and it won't happen.

Your mind may tell your body to rotate your hips faster, but being tight and weak will not allow it to happen. That's where golf specific fitness comes in. Doing a couple of targeted golf stretches and golf exercises will make it easy to accomplish this powerful move in your golf swing.

Do a rotational stretch for your core, and also a rotational strength exercise like a twisting crunch on a stability ball. The combination of the stretch and resistance exercise will greatly improve your bodies ability to generate maximum power with your hips (and core).

So the gist of it is you need to use your hips to create a powerful swing, but you need to strengthen and stretch that specific area of your body to accomplish it. Does that make sense? If you don't, do you really think you can do this specific move in your swing for 18 holes? I think not! Your body will break down from the physical demand you are putting on it.

So the take-away from this article is strengthening and stretching your core area to be able to use your hips for a powerful golf swing.

Golf Swing Instructions That Work

There is nothing else in the world like excelling at the sport of golf. Having the ability to shoot well among friends or in heated competition will gain you both respect and admiration among your peers. It is not beyond anyone to play a solid round of golf once a consistent and steady golf swing is established. This article serves to provide golf swing instructions to the reader in the hopes that it will enlighten the reader, as well as improve their golf game.

One's golf swing can be broken down into three portions: the back-swing, the forward-swing, and the follow-through. Avoiding the common mistakes made during each of these three portions will help to ensure a proper and effective golf swing.

During the back-swing, try not to pick the club up too quickly off the ground. Let the club sweep across the ground smoothly as it rises into the air letting the head of the club draw a circle starting at the ball location and ending with the shaft and club head parallel to the ground and pointing at the target. As you begin your forward-swing, you will start to move your weight from the right side of your body over to the left. Once the ball is impacted, a majority of your weight should now be primarily on your left hip and foot.

Your swing's follow-through is just as important as the other two parts. Make sure not to underestimate the significance of this part of your swing. After impact, try to rotate your torso to face the target and move your head to look down the line of your shot. During this rotation of your torso, you will start to move your right foot lifting the heel, rotating, and finally balancing your stance with your right foot's toes.

Practicing in front of a mirror can be a good exercise. In order to perform this exercise properly however, you should practice each portion of the swing separately, then as whole. Pay close attention to your posture, the club head sweeping the ground and the shift of your weight from one side of the body to the other.

Keep in mind that correctly practicing your swing will get you well on your way to playing consistently good golf. You may find it helpful to stop by the range a few times a week and play a game of golf in your head. Before each shot, remember your golf swing instructions, and work to break as few of the rules as possible.

After quite a bit of practicing, you will find that your golf swing has become much more consistent. Keeping your swing consistent is the key to playing quality golf. Before you know it, all your friends will be asking you for golf swing instructions!

Golf - Proper Swing Technique

Golf has become one of the most popular sports in the world.

Golf exercise DVDs, and workout programs to improve your golf swing are selling like hot cakes as keen golfers pursue the goal of the perfect swing.

But don't get bogged down with golf swing mechanics which can be a complicated concept to get your head around. To begin with aim for a good comfortable golf swing which feels right for you. The Perfect Golf Swing

Every golfers are looking to master the perfect golf swing. You can lower your golf scores and and add 25 yards to your drive range by doing simple golf fitness. These specific exercises will enhance your flexibility and power.

Golf fitness consists of exercises that are specific to the sport of golf and is especially designed to increase your flexibility, strength, balance and endurance. The most important is adding flexibility to your range of motion to make you hit the ball farther. You will extend your shoulder during your backswing which determines how much power is transmitted into the ball. Perform each of these exercises with one set of fifteen reps.

1- The Golf Twist

Stand in a golf-address position with your feet slightly more than shoulder-width apart, and place your weight on the inside of each heel. Use both hands to hold a 5-pound medicine ball or dumbbell at the center of your chest, with your elbows extended out to your sides. Keeping your head still and your feet flat, bring the ball up and to the left, as in a backswing, until your right shoulder is underneath your chin. Return to the starting position and repeat to the right.

2- Golf Squat

Stand, holding a 10-pound dumbbell down in front of you with a hand-over-hand grip. Your feet should be more than shoulder-width apart in this starting position. Lower to a squat. Rise, turning to the right, while bending your elbows and raising the weight over your right shoulder. Your hips should face right, with your weight over your right foot and your left heel off the floor. Return to the starting position and repeat to the other side. That's one repetition. Do a total of 12 repetitions.

There is no doubt that the perfect golf swing drill happens only with those whose muscles and bodies have been prepared.

Golf Swing Instructions for Beginners

Beginner golfers learning the game of golf should focus their efforts on the most critical elements of the golf swing, namely the golf grip, setup and full swing fundamentals. Here are swing basics and tips that reinforce these fundamentals. Note: these golf swing tips are for right handed golfers.

The Grip

1.For most golfers, the recommended golf grip for the swing is the Vardon Overlap grip where the little finger of the right hand (trailing hand) is placed in the crease of the forefinger and middle finger of the left hand (leading hand).

2. The left hand thumb should fit in the lifeline of the right hand.

3. The finished golf swing grip should lie in fingers and not the palms.

4.Grip pressure determines amount of wrist hinge and release - on a scale of 1 to 10 where 10 is "tight" and 1 is "loose," strive for a "5 to 6."

5. "Neutral" grip is recommended for majority of golf swing shots and results in "square" club face at impact. Using a neutral grip, the "V" formed by thumb and index finger of each hand should point between right shoulder and chin.

Golf Swing Posture & Stance

1. Body weight in middle of feet.

2. Tilt from hips approximately 30 degrees to achieve proper spine angle.

3. Knees slightly flexed.

4. Keep back straight. Visualize an "axis line" down spine. Rotate around this axis line throughout the swing.

5. Arms hang freely.

6. Chin up and off chest.

7. Stance: shoulder-width for mid-irons; slightly wider for longer irons and woods; slightly narrower for shorter irons and wedges.

Full Golf Swing Fundamentals

Backswing

· Assume address position

· Rotate club, body and arms back along your swing plane while shifting your body weight to the inside of your right leg.

· As hands approach waist, wrists should hinge.

· At the top of the back swing, check that left arm is straight, 80% of body weight is on inside of right leg and right knee is flexed.

· Check that your shoulders are turned 90° and hips are turned 30 to 45°

Downswing

· First movement of downswing is weight shift to the left, then hips, arms and shoulders unwind to impact.

· At impact, club is released by unhinging wrists and delivering club head square through ball - keep head behind ball at impact.

· AS body turns to target through swing impact, arms and clubs extend down the target line.

· At finish position, belt buckle faces target; club is wrapped around shoulder; 90% of weight is on left leg with right foot upright on toes.

Mastering a One Plane Golf Swing

Are you having trouble mastering a one plane golf swing? To take the club back in one smooth movement can be quite tricky and as you know it can take a long time to master and some people even take years before they can do it successfully.

Golf Fitness Stretching and Exercises to Improve Your Golf Swing

Golf fitness stretching and corollary golf exercises are an easy way to improve your golf swing. The utilization of golf exercises within a golf fitness program can enhance many aspects of the golf swing and your golf game.The amateur golfer can improve their ability to execute the golf swing, complete a full shoulder turn, generate more clubhead speed, and hit more accurate shots with improved flexibility. The process an amateur golfer can improve their flexibility is through golf stretches.

Before providing information on what are the best stretches for golfer let us define flexibility. Flexibility refers to range of motion. It is defined as the optimal extensibility of all soft tissues in the body (Michael Clark, Director, National Academy of Sports Medicine). The biomechanics of the swing require the golfer to swing the club on the correct plane. In order for the biomechanics of the swing to be executed correctly every muscle, ligament, and tendon in the body must allow for optimal joint range of motion.

Increased flexibility is the benefit of stretching. These benefits occur through the elongation (i.e. stretching) of soft tissues (muscles, tendons, ligaments). Typically certain muscles in your body are in a shortened position (i.e. "tight"), causing restrictions in the golf swing. Golf stretches (i.e. elongating) these muscles alleviates these muscles alleviates these restrictions allowing for the ranges of motion required of the golf swing to develop.

Because the golf swing requires a large range of motion from multiple joints (ankle, hip, thoracic spine, and shoulder), I suggest performing a series of flexibility exercises for the entire body. Many golfers will find "tightness" in the hamstrings, hips, lower, and upper back causing restrictions in their joint range of motions as well as golf swing. This may require additional golf stretches to assist in the restrictions caused by these muscles.

Guidelines to golf stretches are quite simple. A comprehensive series of stretches for golf should be completed a minimum of four times per week. If an individual desires these exercises can be performed daily. In addition to performing golf stretches multiple times per week each exercise should be take each target muscle passively to the point of "tension" and holding the stretch for 30 seconds. Do not attempt to "bounce" or "push" the stretch for this can result in injury. Pay strict attention to technique with each of your stretches. It also recommended to perform a warm-up prior to your golf stretches to get more out of each exercise. The following are the stretches I often recommend to the amateur player; Rotators, 90/90 Hamstrings, Cats Down, Cats Up, Piriformis, Kneeling Hip Flexor, Openers, Standing Calf, and Standing Quadriceps.

Remember how golf fitness stretches and other types of golf exercises can improve many aspects of your golf swing. The placement of golf fitness stretches in a golf training program is one step to improvement in your golf swing. Keep in mind what is required from the body in regards to the golf swing, and that one of these requirements is drawing the club through a long range of motion. If your body lacks the flexibility to perform this requirement of the golf swing, the ability to execute and efficient golf swing will be compromised.
